3DS hackers are keeping it pretty quiet for the most part. Nintendo patch over with a software to updates every system of 3ds to prevent it hacked. The current flashcart-type hacks working on 3ds are software based. It’s simply that at this time no exploits have been found and used to get gateway 3ds card working on 3ds version 7.1+. It supposedly has one that works across all versions/regions, but is sitting on it to make it harder to patch in the future. So don’t worry, there will be one eventually!
Yes, they’ll crack it eventually, but it will just take a long time to become true, possibly not until 3DS gets replaced with the next generation handheld and direct Nintendo support for it goes offline. Any sort of official release would just have Nintendo patch over whatever loophole they took advantage of (it would be like shouting “LOOK NINTENDO, HERE’S A BUG THAT LETS ME EMULATE”) so they haven’t actually released anything yet.R4i 3ds
Gateway 3ds team has promised to work on supporting 5.0 to 6.1 though. On the website they even mention that they have a working method to boot games on up to 7.1 firmware, yet currently it only supports 4.5. Am I being naive in assuming 7.1 support will be coming soon? I don’t care about updating my 3DS any longer, I’ll stay on 4.5 forever if it means I can have a working gateway 3ds flashcard to buy.
